Did I play this hand too fast?

January 4, 2010 by TheLock
Here's the setup:

$1/$2 NL at the local casino. I've been at the table and I would imagine I have a tight table image. 3 pre-flop raises have been folded around and the only pot I was involved with I was in the BB and flopped top 2 and played it aggressive.

It's a soft table. Calling is the most common play. There is one LAG guy who juices it up 60% of the hands he's dealt. He's the only LAG guy at the table.

The LAG has about $240 behind and I have about $110 behind. ... More...

The legal climate of sportsbetting.........

December 10, 2009 by TheLock
I'm having a discussion with an intelligent non-sportsbettor friend who just finished a paper on online gaming.

He asked me about my motivation for sports betting based on the current legal climate surrounding it.

I initially gave him a short answer which was essentially, bookmaking is illegal but wagering is not.

He asked me what my interpretation of this was:

Florida Marlins in June

June 14, 2009 by TheLock
Yeah they're not the Rockies but here are some interesting stats:

The Marlins are currently ranked 2nd in runs (59) and OPS (.767) in the month of June in the NL.

Only the Rockies are better (big surprise).

The Marlins pitching staff ranks 10th in ERA (3.58) and 8th in OPS (.686)

Their starting rotation has a 3.67 ERA (8th) and the bullpen has a 3.89 ERA (13th). 8 of their bullpen runs have come thanks to Hayden Penn and Cristian Martinez, all other relievers combine for a 1.95 ERA.

The more amazing thing?

Based off the Marlins periphirals, they're actually underperforming.
